Yard updates part2

Here are the before/afters. It a much more dramatic difference up close, but these are the only pics I have right now.

Back of house Before:

Back of house After:

Green edging is gone, and the flowerbed on the right was extended to wrap around the corner of the house.

Back beds Before:

Back Beds After:
There is also flagstone in the center of the beds, replacing the brick. When it rains, the area in between the beds is a river.

Side Flowerbed Before:

Side flowerbed After:

(this is the view from the kitchen window) Green edging and crumbling brick are gone. We still need to get some seasonal color going out here.

the new beds look great.

just one question...

what did they put down before they laid the bricks? a concrete footing? a layer of bricks?

(I may try to copy this)

Do you mean the stone around the flowerbeds? They dug a 4" trench and put rebar(?) and filled it with concrete up to ground level. Then they let that dry a bit, and set the stones on top of it with grout inbetween. Then someone came back and cleaned up the grout seams. So 2 full days work for 3 or 4 skilled men, not counting the time to get the supplies and tools and clean up. I wouldn't try it on my own.

The flower bed along the side of the house (breakfast room window) and around the corner is my favorite. Can't wait to see it, so get it planted.

That's Holly's favorite part too, and mine also(great minds...). Bob spent the whole day in the yard planting and mulching, so it's ready for viewing. I'm am in need of some ajuga (sp?) transpants, so start diggin'.
